Islamic Phrases

Allahu A'lam in Arabic

Allahu A'lam

Allah knows best.

Meaning

Allahu means "Allah" and a'lam means "knows best" or "more knowing". Muslims say it when they do not know something for certain, and scholars often end an opinion with "wallahu a'lam" to say that final knowledge belongs to Allah. The phrase "Allahu a'lam" also appears in the Quran, for example in 6:124.

When to say it: Said when you are not sure of an answer, or to end a statement that may be wrong.

Also spelled Allahu Alam, Wallahu A'lam, Allahu Aalam, Wallahu Alam, Allah knows best.
