Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam

May Allah send blessings and peace upon him.

Meaning

Salla means "sent blessings", alayhi is "upon him" and sallam means "and granted peace". The Quran tells believers to send blessings and peace on the Prophet (33:56). Muslims say or write it after his name; in print it is often shortened to the ﷺ symbol or "SAW". English writers often use "PBUH" (peace be upon him).

When to say it: Said after the name of the Prophet Muhammad.

Also spelled Salallahu alaihi wasalam, Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, SAW, SAWW, PBUH, Peace be upon him.

Said on Mawlid an-Nabi, Isra and Mi'raj.
