Islamic Phrases

Wa Alaykum Assalam in Arabic

Wa Alaykum Assalam

And peace be upon you too.

Meaning

Wa means "and", alaykum means "upon you", and as-salam means "the peace". It returns the greeting with the same wish. The Quran (4:86) says to answer a greeting with a better one or at least return it, which is why many add "wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh".

When to say it: The reply to Assalamu Alaikum.

Also spelled Walaikum assalam, Wa alaikum salam, Wa'alaikumussalam, Waalaikumsalam, Wa alaykum as-salam, Wa Alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
