Islamic Phrases

Ya Allah in Arabic

Ya Allah

O Allah.

Meaning

Ya is the Arabic word for calling someone, like "O", and Allah is the name of God. In duas from the Quran and hadith the same call is usually made as Allahumma, which also means "O Allah". Ya Rabb ("O my Lord") is another common way to call on Him. People also say Ya Allah on its own when something worries or surprises them, as a short appeal for help.

When to say it: Said when calling on Allah, at the start of a personal dua, or in a moment of worry or need.

Also spelled Ya Allah, Yaa Allah, Ya Allaah, Ya Rabb.
