Allahumma Salli Ala Muhammad (Durood) in Arabic

Allahumma Salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala Ali Muhammad

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad.

Meaning

Allahumma means "O Allah", salli 'ala means "send blessings upon", and ali Muhammad means "the family of Muhammad". It is the opening of the Durood Ibrahim recited in the last sitting of every prayer. The Quran tells believers to send blessings on the Prophet (33:56), and a well-known hadith says Allah sends ten blessings on whoever sends one on him. It appears in the Quran at 33:56.

When to say it: Said to send blessings on the Prophet: in every prayer, when his name is mentioned, and often on Fridays.

Also spelled Allahumma salli ala Muhammad, Allahuma sali ala Muhammad, Allahumma salli ala sayyidina Muhammad, Durood Sharif, Darood Shareef, Salawat.

Said on Mawlid an-Nabi, Isra and Mi'raj.

What is Durood Ibrahim?
