Islamic Phrases

Alayhis Salam (AS) in Arabic

Alayhis Salam

Peace be upon him.

Meaning

Alayhi means "upon him" and as-salam means "the peace". Muslims say it after the names of the prophets (apart from Muhammad, who is followed by "sallallahu alayhi wa sallam") and often after angels. Some communities also use it for other revered figures; practice differs. It changes for a woman (alayha) and a group (alayhim).

When to say it: Said after the name of a prophet or an angel, such as Ibrahim or Jibril.

Also spelled Alayhi as-salam, Alaihis salam, AS, Alayhi salam, Peace be upon him.

Said on Ashura.
