Islamic Phrases

Radiyallahu Anhu (RA) in Arabic

Radiyallahu Anhu

May Allah be pleased with him.

Meaning

Radiya means "was pleased", Allah is the one who is pleased, and anhu means "with him". Muslims say it after the names of the Prophet's Companions, such as Abu Bakr or Umar. The ending changes with who is named: anhu (a man), anha (a woman), anhuma (two people), anhum (a group). The same wording appears in Surah At-Tawbah about the early believers. It appears in the Quran at 9:100.

When to say it: Said after the name of a Companion of the Prophet.

Also spelled Radhiallahu anhu, Radi Allahu anhu, RA, Radiallahu anhu, Ridwanullah.

Said on Ashura.
