Islamic Phrases

Subhanahu wa Ta'ala (SWT) in Arabic

Subhanahu wa Ta'ala

Glory to Him, the Most High.

Meaning

Subhanahu means "glory be to Him", wa means "and", and ta'ala means "the Most High". Muslims say or write it after the name of Allah, usually shortened to SWT. Do not confuse it with the symbol ﷻ, which stands for a different phrase, "jalla jalaluhu" (His majesty is glorious). It appears in the Quran at 16:1.

When to say it: Said after the name of Allah, as a mark of respect.

Also spelled SWT, S.W.T., Subhanahu wa Taala, Subhanahu wata'ala, Subhanahu wa ta'aala.
