Meaning
La ilaha illa anta means "there is no god but You", subhanaka means "glory be to You", and inni kuntu minaz-zalimin means "I have been one of the wrongdoers". These are the words of the prophet Yunus (Jonah) from inside the whale, in Surah Al-Anbiya. A well-known hadith says that no Muslim calls on Allah with them for anything without Allah answering him. In South Asia it is often called the Ayat-e-Karima. It appears in the Quran at 21:87.
When to say it: Said in distress, when worried or in trouble, and when asking Allah for a way out.
Also spelled La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz zalimeen, La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minadh-dhalimin, Dua Yunus, Ayat-e-Karima, Ayat Kareema.
