Dua Before Sleeping in Arabic

Bismika Allahumma Amutu wa Ahya

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Meaning

Bismika means "in Your name", Allahumma means "O Allah", and amutu wa ahya means "I die and I live". The Quran describes sleep as a kind of death, when Allah takes the soul and returns it. Hudhayfah reported that the Prophet said this when he lay down, and on waking said "Alhamdulillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur".

When to say it: Said when lying down to sleep.

Also spelled Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya, Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya, Allahumma bismika amootu wa ahya, Dua before sleep, Sleeping dua.
