Dua for Healing the Sick in Arabic

Adh-hibil-Ba's Rabban-Nas, Ishfi wa Antash-Shafi, la Shifa'a illa Shifa'uk, Shifa'an la Yughadiru Saqama

Take away the harm, Lord of mankind, and heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.

Meaning

Adh-hibil-ba's means "take away the harm", rabban-nas means "Lord of mankind", ishfi wa antash-shafi means "heal, for You are the Healer", and shifa'an la yughadiru saqama means "a healing that leaves no illness behind". Aisha reported that when the Prophet visited someone who was sick, or a sick person was brought to him, he said this. Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded it, and one narration adds that he wiped the sick person with his right hand as he said it.

When to say it: Said for someone who is ill, often while visiting them, and for yourself when you are unwell.

Also spelled Adhhibil baas rabban nas, Azhibil bas rabbannas, Dua for the sick, Dua for healing, Dua for a sick person.

Common questions

What do you say when visiting a sick person?

Say this dua, and also "La ba'sa, tahurun in sha Allah", meaning "no harm, it is a purification, if Allah wills", which the Prophet said when visiting the sick. Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi also record asking Allah seven times to cure them, with the words shown above.

Is there a dua for my own pain?

Yes. The Prophet taught a companion to put his hand where it hurt, say Bismillah three times, then say seven times A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir, "I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and fear". Muslim recorded it.
