Meaning
Dhahaba al-zama'u means "the thirst has gone", wabtallatil-'uruq means "the veins are moistened", and thabatal-ajr means "the reward is confirmed". Ibn Umar reported that the Prophet said these words when he broke his fast. Many people say Bismillah before the first bite and this dua after it. Another well-known iftar dua, "Allahumma laka sumtu", is also widely said, though scholars consider its chain weaker.
When to say it: Said at iftar, when breaking the fast at sunset, usually after the first sip of water or bite of a date.
Also spelled Dhahabaz zama'u wabtallatil urooq, Zahabaz zamau wabtallatil urooqu wa sabatal ajru, Dhahaba al-thama'u, Iftar dua, Dua for opening fast.
Said on Ramadan.

Common questions
When do you say the iftar dua?
Say Bismillah, break the fast with a date or water, then say the dua. The words describe thirst that has already gone, so most scholars place it after the first sip or bite.
What is Allahumma laka sumtu?
It is another common iftar dua: "Allahumma laka sumtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu", O Allah, for You I fasted and with Your provision I break my fast. Its chain is weaker than the dua above, but it is still widely said.
Is there a dua for starting the fast?
There is no fixed wording from the Prophet for the intention to fast. The intention is in the heart. The phrase "Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan" is widely taught, but it is not from a hadith.
