Allahumma Innaka Afuwwun (Laylatul Qadr Dua) in Arabic

Allahumma Innaka 'Afuwwun Tuhibbul 'Afwa Fa'fu 'Anni

O Allah, You are the One who pardons, and You love to pardon, so pardon me.

Meaning

Allahumma means "O Allah", innaka 'afuwwun means "You are the Pardoner", tuhibbul 'afwa means "You love to pardon", and fa'fu 'anni means "so pardon me". Aisha asked the Prophet what she should say if she knew which night was Laylat al-Qadr, and he taught her this dua. 'Afw is a pardon that wipes a sin away completely, as if it had never been written.

When to say it: Said often in the last ten nights of Ramadan, hoping to reach Laylat al-Qadr, and at any time when asking Allah's pardon.

Also spelled Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fafu anni, Allahumma innaka afuwun karimun, Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa'fu anna, Laylatul Qadr dua, Lailatul Qadar dua.

Said on Laylatul Qadr, Ramadan, Shab-e-Barat.

Common questions

Is it 'afuwwun karimun' or just 'afuwwun'?

Many printed versions add karimun (Generous). The best-known narration of the hadith does not include it, so many scholars prefer the shorter wording. Both versions are copyable on this page.

When is Laylat al-Qadr?

It is one of the odd nights in the last ten nights of Ramadan: the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th. Its exact date is not known, so Muslims say this dua on all of them.
