What it is
Eid al-Adha means "the festival of sacrifice". It remembers the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son at Allah's command, and Allah providing a ram in his place. It falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, while pilgrims are completing Hajj. It appears in the Quran at 37:107.
Also spelled Eid ul Adha, Bakra Eid, Bakrid, Idul Adha, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Kurban Bayramı.
What Muslims do
Muslims go to the Eid prayer in the morning and then those who can afford it sacrifice a sheep, goat, cow or camel, sharing the meat with family, neighbours and people in need. The Eid takbir is said after the prayers from the Day of Arafah until the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

Eid al-Adha is on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, during Hajj. The days of sacrifice continue until the 12th or 13th, depending on the school of thought.
Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia. Many countries set their own dates by local moon sighting or a national authority, as in Pakistan, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, so the date where you live can be a day later.
