Expected date

9 Dhul Hijjah 1448 AH

The most important day of Hajj, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, and a day of fasting for those not on Hajj.

What it is

On the Day of Arafah, pilgrims on Hajj stand on the plain of Arafat from midday to sunset, which is the central rite of Hajj. A well-known hadith says that fasting this day, for those not on Hajj, expiates the sins of the year before and the year after. Another says the best dua is the dua of the Day of Arafah. It appears in the Quran at 5:3.

Also spelled Yawm Arafah, Arafat Day, Hari Arafah, Arefe Günü.

What Muslims do

Muslims who are not on Hajj fast and spend the day in dua and dhikr. The dua the Prophet described as the best said on this day is "La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir". The Eid takbir after the prayers begins from the dawn of this day.
