Eid Takbir in Arabic

Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illallah, Wallahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, wa Lillahil-Hamd

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.

Meaning

Allahu Akbar means "Allah is the Greatest", La ilaha illallah means "there is no god but Allah", and wa lillahil-hamd means "and to Allah belongs all praise". The Quran tells Muslims to glorify Allah when they complete the fast of Ramadan, and this wording is reported from companions such as Ibn Mas'ud. For Eid al-Fitr it is said from the sighting of the moon until the Eid prayer; for Eid al-Adha, from the dawn of the Day of Arafah until the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. It appears in the Quran at 2:185.

When to say it: Said on the night and morning of Eid on the way to the Eid prayer, and after the prayers from the Day of Arafah until the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

Also spelled Takbeer of Eid, Eid Takbeer, Takbirat al-Eid, Allahu akbar allahu akbar la ilaha illallah, Takbir Raya.

Said on Eid al-Fitr, Day of Arafah, Eid al-Adha.

Common questions

When is the Eid takbir said?

For Eid al-Fitr, from the sighting of the Shawwal moon until the Eid prayer starts. For Eid al-Adha, after each prayer from the dawn of the Day of Arafah until the 13th of Dhul Hijjah, and on the way to the Eid prayer.

Is it the same for both Eids?

The wording is the same. The difference is the timing: the takbir of Eid al-Fitr ends with the Eid prayer, while the takbir of Eid al-Adha continues for the days after it.
